Project Scope

This ultra-urban widening project is located near downtown Memphis. It consisted of 1.2 miles of widening and relocation of State Routes 1, 4 and 14. W.H. Porter Consultants provided TDOT with the survey and design services on this project. The project required redesign of the storm drainage system and significant utility relocations. Also included in the project were four traffic signals, street lighting, and a fiber-optic signal interconnect. The proximity of the project to the city’s CBD and the area’s historic significance added to the complexity of the project and complicated the traffic control, which was successfully addressed.
